This is the starting point for
most people. Even if you have provisional motorcycle entitlement
on your licence, you must complete a CBT course before you
can ride on the road. It is designed for novices and is conducted
in a friendly atmosphere, designed to put you at your ease.
CBT aims to give new riders the necessary skills to control
their machine and to ride safely on the road.
The CBT is mainly conducted in our own private "off road"
area and in our office.
We start the day with a chat about safety helmets and protective
clothing with advice on what may be most suitable for you and
how to buy with confidence.
You will then be introduced to the bike you'll be using for
the day. We'll show you all the controls, including how to use
the stands and some tips on how to check if it's roadworthy.
Now we start riding. You'll be shown how to pull away safely
and stop, how to control the bike at slow speeds and how to
change gear. We later move onto emergency stops, observations,
u-turns and more!
We then move back into the office for a discussion on the safety
aspects of riding on the road including a chat about the Highway
Code. Following this we have a quick briefing and then it's
out onto the road to put it all into practice. We start off
in a quiet residential area to gain confidence before moving
out onto other types of road. During the ride you will be in
constant radio contact with your instructor who will be guiding
you.
After successful completion of the course you will be issued
a CBT certificate (DL196) which then allows you to ride unaccompanied
on the road with L plates. |
